Protecting Your Animal Through Preventive Care

Parkton pet vaccinations are an essential part of keeping your animal healthy and protecting them from serious, preventable diseases. At North Star Veterinary Hospital, we work with you to create a vaccination plan tailored to your pet’s age, lifestyle, environment, and individual health needs. Whether you have a new puppy or kitten, a senior companion, or another beloved animal, our team is here to help you make informed decisions about their ongoing care.

Personalized Vaccine Plans for Every Stage of Life

During your animal’s wellness visit, we’ll discuss which vaccines are recommended based on their risk factors, daily activities, and overall health. Preventive vaccination helps protect your pet from potentially life-threatening illnesses while also helping protect other animals and, in some cases, the people around them. Our veterinary team provides core and lifestyle-based vaccinations for dogs and cats, including protection against diseases such as rabies, distemper, parvovirus, leptospirosis, feline leukemia, and more.

We also consider factors such as boarding, daycare, travel, outdoor activities, exposure to wildlife, and interactions with other animals when recommending vaccines.

Canine Vaccinations

DA2PP4L*

The DA2PP4L vaccine is a combination vaccine that protects dogs against several serious diseases, including distemper, adenovirus-2, parvovirus, parainfluenza, and leptospirosis. These illnesses can range from severe to potentially fatal, making routine vaccination an important part of your dog’s preventive care plan.

Bordetella*

The Bordetella vaccine helps protect dogs against kennel cough and other upper respiratory infections. This vaccine is especially recommended for dogs who visit boarding facilities, daycare, grooming facilities, dog parks, training classes, or participate in shows and other social activities.

Rabies*

Rabies is a fatal viral disease that affects the nervous system and can be transmitted to all mammals, including humans. Because of the serious health risks associated with rabies, vaccination is considered a core component of canine preventive care.

Leptospirosis*

Leptospirosis (“lepto”) is a bacterial infection caused by Leptospira bacteria and is commonly spread through the urine of infected wildlife and rodents. This zoonotic disease can affect dogs, cats, livestock, wildlife, and humans. In dogs, leptospirosis can lead to severe kidney and liver complications, making vaccination an important part of disease prevention.

Canine Influenza*

Canine influenza, also known as dog flu, is a contagious respiratory disease caused by specific strains of influenza virus. Symptoms may include coughing, nasal discharge, fever, lethargy, eye discharge, and decreased appetite. Parkton pet vaccinations may be recommended for dogs who travel, board, attend daycare, visit grooming facilities, or frequently interact with other dogs.

Lyme Disease

The Lyme vaccine may be recommended for dogs who live in or travel to areas where ticks are common. Lyme disease is transmitted through tick bites and may cause symptoms including lameness, joint swelling, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, and loss of appetite.

Feline Vaccinations

FVRCP*

The FVRCP vaccine protects cats against several serious diseases, including feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia. These illnesses can cause respiratory symptoms, oral ulcers, severe illness, and, in some cases, can be life-threatening—especially in kittens.

Rabies*

Rabies vaccination is an important part of feline preventive care. This fatal disease affects the nervous system and can be transmitted to all mammals, including humans.

Feline Leukemia (FeLV)

Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is a serious viral disease that affects cats but does not affect humans. It is primarily spread through close contact with infected cats, including grooming, saliva exposure, and shared living spaces. Vaccination is highly recommended for kittens and for adult cats who spend time outdoors or may interact with unknown cats.

*These vaccines are considered core vaccines and are required for pets staying in hospital or who attend boarding or day care.
